BLUEBELL BULBS X 50 (hyacinthoides non scripta) (0069)

These are true English Bluebell bulbs from cultivated stock, not dug up from the wild. It is important to plant native Blueblls as opposed to the rampant Spanish ones which are taking over. English Bluebell flowers hang on one side of the stems, unlike the Spanish which are upright. The flowers are a deep violet-blue (Spanish flowers are pale to mid-blue). The petals form a narrow bell - the Spanish bell is wide open. English Bluebells are highly scented, Spanish are not.

Nectar plant for bees, moths, butterflies and hoverflies. Preferred food source for Brimstone and Pearl Bordered Fritillary butterflies. In the Middle Ages, the white juice from the stems was used to glue feathers on to arrows.

Plant in shady spots, grass or under trees. Flowers April and May. Height about 12 inches. IT IS ILLEGAL TO DIG UP BLUEBELLS IN THE WILD.

Bluebell bulbs are sent out from September to December. However they can be ordered all year round but will be sent out during the correct time.
