Sale Plants!

The following plants are reduced to clear.  The Chicory and larger Baby Breaths cannot be sent so would have to be collected.  Please note that the plants are reduced in price because they need to be sold as they are getting potbound.  Once planted out they will be fine.  Therefore, please do not expect plants in pristine condition!



Baby's Breath (gypsophilia paniculata) 
   

P.  Typical cottage garden plant with masses of tiny white flowers and grey-green leaves. Flowers June to August.  Ht 3 ft (90 cm)

Biting Stonecrop (sedum acre) 
   
P.  Low-growing succulent with yellow star-shaped flowers.  Leaves have a hot peppery taste.  Good for rock gardens.  used to be grown on walls to ward off evil, witches and lightning.  Food plant of the feathered ranunculus moth.

Cardoon (cynara cardunculus) 
   

P.  Huge cut leaves and large thistle-like flowers.  Very statuesque and striking plant.  CG.  H.  Also known as Globe Artichoke.  Sun.  Ht 6 ft.

Chicory (cichorium intybus) 
   
Beautiful sky-blue flowers.  WF.    P.  Flowers Juoly to October.  Bee and bumblebee plant.  Contains vitamins B, C, K and P.  Leaves produce a blue dye.  Often used as a coffee substitute.

Elecampane (inula helenium) 
   
HP.  H.  Wf.  Traditional cottage garden plant because of its use in asthma and cough remedies.  Ht 4 - 5 ft.  Likes moist soil, loves clay.

Pompom Daisy (bellis perennis) 
   
Double daisies in red, pink or white.  Perennial.  Clump forming.

Purslane (portulaca oleracea) 
   

A.  H.  Fleshy light green leaves which can be used in salads, and pretty yellow flowers.  Used to be an important remedy for scurvy because of its high Vitamin C content.  Used to be seen as an anti-magic herb and was strewn around beds to protect from evil. 



Rudbeckia (occidentalis) "Green Wizard" 
   

HP.  Good for the back of a border.  Striking green petals and black central cone.  Very unusual.  Lasts well in water.  Flowers through summer.  Ht 5 ft (1.5 m).  Sun or partial shade.

Weld (reseda luteola) 
   

B.  H.  5 ft flowerspike with yellow-green flowers.  Dye herb.  Flowers June to August.  Leaves are orange because the plants are potbound - they will revert to green once planted.

Wild Mignonette (reseda lutea) 
   
P.  WF.  Meadow plant with steens topped with delicate pale yellow flowers.  Butterfly and bee plant.  Food plant of caterpillars of the following butterflies - Bath White, Cabbage White and Orange Tip. Do not be alarmed by the orange colour of their leaves - once planted they  will revert to green.
