Pennyroyal (mentha pulegium)

P.  Creeping herb that has  flower spires with whorls of purple flowers.  Used to be used to make a tea for colds.  However, plant can be toxic in the wrong doses so alwyas seek advice from a qualified herbalist before using.

 

 

 

Rosemary (rosmarinus officinalis)

Traditional cooking herb but also a very attractive plant.  Perennial and evergreen with light lilac coloured flowers.  Will grow to form a bushy shrub and makes a good hedge. Bee, butterfly and hoverfly plant.  Many uses.  More info

 

 

Sage (salvia officinalis)

P.  Wrinkled, soft leaves and spires of mauve flowers.  Many medicinal and culinary uses.  More info

Valerian (valeriana officinalis)

P.  WF.  Ancient herb growing to about 3ft high, with hollow stems and clusters of small, tubular pink or white flowers.    Smells of vanilla.  Flowers June to July.

Attracts bees and moths (Valerian Pug moth and Lesser Cream Wave).   Apparently cats find it asa attractive as they do Catmint!  Dried root can be used as a moth repellant.  Has been used since antiquity to treat sleep disorders and nervousness.  Makes a good companion plant for vegetables.
