Perennial. Penstemon = "with 5 stamens".

Attractive to hoverflies and bumblebees.

Plant in sun or partial shade. Look good in large clumps. Flowers from mid-summer to mid-autumn.

Barbatus "Cambridge Mix" Grey-green foliage and spikes of pink, rose, blue and purple Foxglove-like flowers. Height 1 ft (30 cm). Look just as good in tubs as in the border. Flowers all summer.

Blue-mauve flowers. 16 - 18 ins (40 - 50 cm) high.

Mersea Yellow (penstemon pinifolius)

Light yellow flowers which are long and slim. Height 12 ins (30 cm). Fine needle-like leaves.

Confertus

Hardy perennial. Mat-forming alpine Penstemon. Yellow flowers with tiny black anthers. Ht 1 ft (30 cm). Sun. Also known as Beard Tongue.

Foothill Penstemon (penstemon heterophyllus)

Member of the Figwort family. American wildflower, found in grasslands, foothills and woodlands. Lovely purple-pink trumpets of flowers. Grows to about 45 cm high. Butterfly plant.

Jingle Bells Ht 90 cm. Scarlet red flowers. Honey bee food plant. Flowers June to August.

Navigator

Dwarf Penstemon with masses of flowers in rose, blue, pink and violet. Ideal for exposed, windy sites.
