Anthemis sancti-johannes 
   
HP.  Very much like an orange corn chamomile, with lots of orange flowers.  Ht about 2 ft (60 cm).  Sun.

Apricot Foxglove (digitalis) 
   

P.  Apricot-pink flowers on short, sturdy stems.  Ht 2 ft (60 cm), so, being quite short, its ideal for exposed sites.  Flowers all summer.  Sun or partial shade.

Baby's Breath (gypsophilia paniculata) 
   

P.   Grey-green, grassy leaves and dense panicles of double white flowers from June to August.  Ht 3 ft (90 cm).  Sun.  As they are light and wispy, the plants look good planted amongst darker flowers.

Blanket Flower "Dazzler" (gaillardia aristata) 
   

P.  Large yellow open-faced flowers with red centres - truly dazzling!  Ht 75 cm.

Bugle (ajuga reptans) 
   

HP.  Ht about 1 ft (30 cm).  Vigorous groundcover plant with blue flowers during spring and summer.  Good for shady spots.

Cardoon (cyanara cardunculus) 
   

HP.  CG and vegetable. Also known as Globe Artichoke.  Very striking and atrtractive back-of-border plant.   Ht 6 ft (2 m).  Very large, deeply-cut leaves and large purple, thistle-like flowers.  Sun.



Columbine - McKennas Hybrids (aquilegia) 
   

P.  Also known as Granny Bonnets because the flowers resemble old-fashioned bonnets.  Ht 2 - 3 ft (60 - 90 cm).  Flowers June to July.  Bee plant.  Large flowers, many colours.

CAUTION - all parts are poisonous.

Coral Flower (heuchera sanguinera) 
   

P.  Long pink flowers and silver-marbled green leaves.  Flowers July to August.  Sun or partial shade.  Spreads.

Cupid's Dart (catananche caerulea) 
   

P wildflower of southern Europe and North Africa but would look at home in a cottage garden.  Looks very much like a cornflower with its blue flower from July to September.  Ht 2 ft (60 cm).  Used by the ancients in love charms and as an aphrodisiac - hence its name.

Delphinium "Astilat" 
   

P.  Border and cut flower.  Spires of rosy coloured flowers with dark bees.  Ht 1.5 m.  Flowers June to September.  Very pretty.

Perennial.  Tall spires of blue flowers with black bees.  Very striking.

Evening primrose "Sunset Boulevard" (oenothera versicolor) 
   

HP.  Ht 18 ins.  Large-blooming orange flowers changing to red which are open all day from June to August.  Sun.
