The English Cottage Garden Nursery is a small nursery based in Godmersham in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are very much into green issues and caring for the environment and grow a wide variety of wildflowers, herbs and cottage garden plants - the majority of which are not easily found in garden centres – and all are grown in peat-free compost in an organic manner. We also sell native hedging and wildflower seeds and meadow mixtures. We provide a mail order service and plants are packaged in recycled boxes if available (so do not be alarmed if your plants arrive in a box previously used for beer bottles!) or our own custom made boxes. There is enough waste on this planet without us adding unnecessarily to it!

Over time we have developed almost a passion for wildflowers in particular and this is reflected in the different varieties we grow. Wildflowers are becoming increasingly rare in the wild and it is, therefore, important that we plant suppliers, gardeners, designers and landscapers do all we can to preserve these native species for future generations. It is also important from the point of view of the wildlife who feed on these wildflowers: no wildflowers = no wildlife.

Our website will help you to grow the wildflowers needed to attract wildlife to your garden and create a haven for all sorts of bees, butterflies and moths, birds and small mammals. The website will also provide you with advice on creating meadow habitats and the right native trees needed to create a wildlife-friendly hedgerow. Even the traditional cottage garden was full of wildflowers and herbs!
If you cannot find in stock what you are after, please contact us – we will contract grow anything, either as plugs or as potted plants. The online shop will have the most up to date details of what is in stock at any one time. If you are in the gardening or retail trade and are interested in having plants from ourselves, plant availability lists can be provided on request.

We have also adopted the Flora Locale Code of Practice. Flora Locale is a wildflower charity promoting the wise use and supply of native flora. Adopting their Code of Practice means that, where known, we will provide information on seed/plant origin. This may be important, for example, if you are creating a meadow area that must only have native British wildflower seeds. We are also registered with DEFRA as a supplier of preservation seed mixes.

Plants also evoke memories and what better memory can someone have than of your wedding day! We supply unusual wedding favours in the form of seed packets of wildflower or herb seeds, personalised to your taste. Also potted wildflowers or herbs in metal bucket pots. However, these are not just confined to weddings – we can also create personalised seed packets for birthdays, christenings and other special events – for example, we have had requests for personalised seed packets for school children as part of school gardening projects. Why not visit our website devoted solely to wedding favours - www.wildflower-favours.co.uk.
Similarly we can supply corporate gift packages for valued employees, employee retirement or as a PR exercise. Please contact us for further information.
